These ceramic resistors are made by winding resistive wire on fibre glass cord or ceramic rods. Terminals are crimped or welded to end caps. This resistors assembly is then encapsulated in ceramic boat with high Temperature and fire retardant cement

Starting Resistor


STARTING RESISTORS are necessary since the dc resistance of a motor armature is very low. Commonly known as a "reduced-voltage" or "ballast" resistor, this resistor acts as a voltage divider for soft starting of the motor. Starting resistors are used to start large three-phase asynchronous machines with slip-ring rotor. The series-connected chokes or resistors reduce the voltage at the motor and hence also the starting current.
